SIGN UP BELOW

Tuesdays 6:30pm – 7:30pm virtual via Zoom

Instructor: Jeannine Hartman, Certified Personal Trainer

Description: Delay the Disease is an evidence-based fitness program designed to optimize physical function and help delay the progression of symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. This evening class is a more rigorous offering of the traditional Delay the Disease class and especially appropriate for those with Young Onset Parkinson’s or those desiring a more challenging workout. This wellness program is a combination of focus on a person’s Core, Cardio, and Brain.  The class develops core strength for balance supplemented by cardio to increase the heart rate. An increase in heart rate has been shown to increase firing in the brain and lead to results in cognitive enhancement and maintenance when it is combined with memory drills and sequential patterns. The series of exercises consists of activating the muscles in your feet, walking drills to help aid in gait issues, posture drills, hand dexterity drills, balance, and brain drills.  BUT the best part of the class is camaraderie.  The stories and experiences we share weekly give us the strength to live and persevere with this disease!

About the Instructor: As a single mother of three daughters, and recently new grandmother, I always realized the importance of having ahealthy lifestyle in order to persevere through life’s daily challenges. In 2002 I turned my passion for healthy living and fitness into my career, becoming a Certified Personal Trainer.  By 2007, I began managing AmeriFit, a health facility in Mt. Lebanon PA, while regularly training a full-time schedule of private clients.  As a Personal Trainer, not only do I design strength and cardio workouts to fit client’s individual needs, I am also able to personalize nutritional plans to fit their lifestyle.

My experience also includes rehabilitating clients from injuries, working closely with physical therapist and medical teams to achieve the correct regimen and training program for success.  When designing a program, I primarily focus on exerting muscles to become fit, strengthening the circulatory system aerobically, building muscles through tension and resistance training, improving flexibility, and incorporating body exercises that promote balance. In 2010 I extended my experience to working with Special Populations, including clients that have Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Arthritis, Osteoporosis and the Intellectually Disabled.

Since 2018, I have taken my Personal Training experience in a more focused direction.  I am a certified and licensed instructor for Delay The DiseaseTM, an evidence-based fitness program designed to optimize physical function and help delay the progression of symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.  Focusing on this area of general health and fitness, I have developed additional classes and now offer a variety of Delay the DiseaseTM, balance, brain training, yoga, and personal fitness classes each week, including both live classes and virtual classes using Zoom.

In the next chapter of my journey, I want to reach as many people as I can to help them to “Be Balanced. Be Safe.”
