Join this unique class which will include 30 minutes of PWR! (Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery!) led by Casey Rodak AND 30 minutes of voice exercises incorporating concepts from SPEAK OUT! and The LOUD Crowd led by Valerie Bucek, SLP.
PWR! is a PD-specific skill training program developed to maintain or restore skills that deteriorate and interfere with everyday movements. Each of the PWR!Moves directly targets skills shown by research to become impaired in PD and that interfere with everyday mobility. The exercises are performed with large amplitude, high effort and attention to action in multiple postures (floor, all 4’s, sitting and standing). All exercises can be modified to the participant’s current level. Casey Rodak will lead this portion of class.
SPEAK OUT!® and The LOUD Crowd® is a therapy approach developed by Parkinson Voice Project that combines education, individual speech therapy, and ongoing group sessions to help people with Parkinson’s improve their speech and voice. The program is based on principles of motor learning and teachings of the late Daniel R. Boone who first recognized that individuals with Parkinson’s could markedly improve their speaking abilities if they transitioned speech from an automatic function to an intentional act.
